Community Service Awards Deadline Nears
Nominations are being requested for the 2004-05 Community Service Award. There are four awards per year – one each to a CSULB student, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The Community Service awards are designed to recognize and encourage service by members of the CSULB family to the community within which they live. The awards are sponsored by the Academic Senate, the Staff Council, the Alumni Association, and the Associated Students.
For qualification, a wide range of service activities are eligible, including political, religious, and social activism. In all cases, sustained involvement and especially significant results will be considered. Special attention will be given to noteworthy accomplishments within the past 12 months. Preference will be given to unpaid volunteer service which is not part of one's normal and expected occupational duties. Those eligible include CSULB faculty, staff, students, and alumni (to include all former students and friends of the university). Self-nominations are encouraged and awardees may reapply five years after receiving an award.
A nomination form must be completed with the required narrative description. One letter of recommendation of support is required, but as many as three may be submitted. Nominations will be judged by a committee selected by the sponsoring group and deliberations of the committees will be confidential.
DEADLINE: Nominations for faculty, staff, and students must be submitted by U.S. mail or hand carried to the appropriate location listed below by noon on Friday, March 11. Nominations for alumni are also due by Friday, March 11.
To get a nomination form, either call the Academic Senate at 562/985-4149 or visit the Academic Senate Web site.
