Upcoming Workshops for Faculty and Staff

The following is a list of upcoming workshops/classes put on through Staff Personnel Services to assist and inform employees in a variety of areas.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 9-11 a.m.
Demystifying the Classification Process - Facilitated by Ben Boish/Robyn Ames, classification managers from Staff Personnel Services, this workshop is designed to prepare staff going through cycle-review or for others who are interested in the classification and reclassification process. This two-hour workshop will go over the basics of classification, including the objectives of position classification, an explanation of the different types of classification reviews, tips for preparing for classification reviews, the reclassification and classification appeal process, and instructions for preparing position descriptions prior to a classification review.  

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 9:30 a.m.-noon
How to Process a Personnel Transaction Form (PTF) with Sandy Suh, Staff Personnel Services. Helpful instruction for novices on how to fill out the PTF correctly. Registration is required.

Thursday, Feb. 17, 9 a.m.-noon
Travel Workshop - Facilitated by Lauri Reilly and the Controller's Office staff, this workshop is open to all faculty and staff who travel on university business. It is designed to provide information for making travel arrangements and completing the paperwork for yourself, supervisors, co-workers or guests of the university. It is an interactive workshop and time will be provided for questions. Topics of discussion include: travel forms, travel policies, airfare, hotel and auto rental agreements, and receipts. Registration is required.

CALPERS Retirement Seminar is sponsored by the Office of Payroll and Benefit Services. See story.

Friday, Feb. 25, noon-1:30 p.m.
Adult Children of Aging Parents - This workshop will be held in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Room 108. Anyone caring for an aging relative or parent is invited to this monthly open forum. Professor Jeanne Bader from gerontology will facilitate the discussion.

Friday, Feb. 25, noon-1 p.m.
Staying Healthy: Women's & Men's Preventative Health Screenings
, part of the Health for Life series, with Maziyar Shoaee, M.D., Talbert Medical Group. Learn what to do now to prevent illness in the future. Learn what tests you should have done regularly and at what age you should have them. In the Faculty Development Center, Gallery, fifth floor, Main Library. Bring your lunch.  

Wednesday, March 2, 9 a.m. - noon
Communicating with Tact and Skill with Sheryl Benzon from Starfire Training. In this three-hour workshop learn to identify your style of communication, manage conflict and get your point across with tact and finesse. This class also will focus on personality styles, body language, attitude, and mental and emotional filters that influence perceptions. Registration is required.
