29th season of Concerts in the Grove Continues
Halfway through its 29th season of providing entertainment under the stars, the Saturday evening Concerts in the Grove series at CSULB continues through Aug. 20, featuring a variety of musical performances in the Hollywood Bowl-type atmosphere of the Soroptimist House terrace, located just off State University Drive.
The gates open at 6 p.m. for concert-goers who wish to bring picnic suppers prior to the 7:30 p.m. program. Admission is $20.
The remainder of this season's musical lineup is:
Elm Street Band - This Long Beach group boasts alumni of CSULB, Long Beach City College, Millikan High and Stanford Junior High. These four venerable rockers have jammed together in various combinations for almost 40 years. The Long Beach Press-Telegram calls them “the soundtrack for the City of Long Beach.” The highly acclaimed “oldies” band performs vintage Top 40 and popular tunes from the '40s through the '70s like “Mustang Sally” and “Some Kind of Wonderful.” If you like Elvis, The Beatles and the Eagles, you will love the Elm Street Band.
Elm Street Band
Breezin - This versatile, four-piece group brings high-energy dance music with an emphasis on vocal performances that blend together to create rich, tight harmonies and rhythmic interpretations. Its ability to perform a repertoire of popular hits from the 1960s, '70s and '80s will keep all ages singing and toe tapping to rock 'n' roll, disco, jazz, blues and R&B music. Breezin has 20 years of live performance experience in the hottest dance spots throughout Southern California.
All proceeds from Concerts in the Grove help to finance CSULB's emergency student loans, campus grants to worthy programs, student scholarships and numerous alumni programs throughout the year. Thanks to community generosity, the number of grants and available dollars has steadily grown, and Concerts in the Grove continues its commitment to support the university's educational programs of excellence.
