Frank Van Nostrand to Speak At Senior University Registration Meeting
Frank Van Nostrand, Public Affairs Specialist for Social Security in Orange County, will be the guest speaker at the Senior University (OLLI) summer registration meeting on Saturday, June 4. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the membership meeting follows at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Human Services and Design building, Room 101, near the corner of Palo Verde Avenue and Anaheim Road. Free parking for this event only will be available in Lot 9.
Van Nostrand will speak with Senior University OLLI members on the topic of “Top Ten Myths about Social Security (what people don't know but think they do)"as they gather to register for classes for the summer session that runs from Monday, June 20, through Monday, Aug. 15.
Senior University was established nearly a decade ago and membership has grown from 50 to more than 500 students. It is a place for learning, sharing ideas and making friends. Senior University OLLI offers classes in four eight-week sessions each year for adults 50 years of age or older. The classes are taught by current and emeriti university professors, former industry experts, CSULB graduate students and others with skills and knowledge in various fields and disciplines.
Computer classes range from fundamentals to graphics and the use of digital cameras, and are conducted in a 10-workstation lab by skilled instructors and coaches. Lecture classes are offered on a wide variety of topics including health, music, science, literature, creative writing, art, history, finance, politics, travel, Spanish, yoga and bridge.
Annual Senior University membership is $40. Prorated membership fee is $20 for the Spring and Summer sessions. Tuition is $10 per lecture class and $35 per computer class. Computer classes also require an annual $40 SeniorNet membership fee.
