College Receives Award for Contributions
to Hispanic Engineering Students

The College of Engineering at CSULB was recently honored at the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC) for its outstanding contributions to Hispanic engineering stud ents' educational and career opportunities.

One of only four universities from across the nation chosen to receive HENAAC honors, Cal State Long Beach was recognized for having the “Best Southern California Collaborative Partnership with The Boeing Company.”

Anastasios Chassiakos and Sandra Cynar, both associate deans for the CSULB College of Engineering, were presented with the award at the first ever Honors to University Engineering Programs Awards ceremony, held recently during the HENAAC Conference at the Pasadena Convention Center.

CSULB is one of only 72 universities in the world designated by The Boeing Company as "Focus Schools." Since 2000, CSULB has partnered with The Boeing Company to jointly support the Center for Advanced Technology Support for Aerospace Industries, a research and development center where faculty and student interns work with Boeing engineers to develop better tools for aerospace manufacturing.

"I am truly delighted that we have won this award from HENAAC, an outstanding organization,” said Michael Mahoney, dean of the College of Engineering.   “It's an indication of the strength of our wonderful public/private partnership with The Boeing Company and of Boeing's and HENAAC's recognition of our college's contributions and most importantly, of the quality of our students."

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education recently ranked CSULB 10th in its annual Top 100 listing of national colleges and universities that confer the most bachelor's degrees upon Hispanics.
