Staff Human Resources and University College and Extension Services (UCES) are pleased to offer the CSULB Staff Employee Discount Program for UCES Professional Development for non-credit courses and programs. This program entitles CSULB staff employed for six months or more (full-time temporary/permanent or part-time permanent) to a 30 percent discount on select UCES Professional Development courses and programs. The Professional Development Grant Program, sponsored by Staff Human Resources, provides financial support for any staff employee who wants to pursue job-related and/or skill-enhancing training opportunities. “First Friday for Managers and Supervisors”
Facilitated by Tom Angell, director of Benefits and Staff Human Resources, this informal training session is loaded with “need to know” information for managers and supervisors. Located in the Student Health Center Conference Room.

If you or your staff provide services to students, faculty or staff, in person and/or over the phone, this class may be for you. Learn how to ask the right questions at the right time, how to prevent and defuse difficult and emotional situations, and how to communicate effectively and with positive impact. This session is facilitated by Jane Holcomb, who has been designing and conducting customer service training for corporate and government agencies since 1984.

This three-hour workshop is presented by the AP Manager and Travel Accounting staff and is open to all faculty and staff who travel on university business or arrange travel for university staff. It is designed to provide information for making travel arrangements and completing the paperwork for yourself, supervisors, co-workers or guests of the university. It is an interactive workshop and time will be provided for questions.

“Annual Retirement Planning Workshop”
The Benefits Services office is offering its Annual Retirement Planning Workshop to be held in the Karl Anatol Conference Room, located in the Academic Services Building on the first floor. A representative from the California Public Employee’s Retirement System (CalPERS) will be present to discuss retirement and enhancements to the CalPERS retirement resources through myCalPERS. Due to limited seating, this workshop is offered to university employees who are eligible for a CalPERS Service Retirement (has a minimum of five years earned service credit in the CalPERS Retirement System and are at least 50 years of age). If you are considering retirement in the next five years this workshop is for you. “Social Security-Medicare Workshop”
Presented by the Social Security Administration, this workshop will provide information on Social Security benefits and programs, Medicare Parts A and B, and eligibility requirements. Participants will be able to ask questions from the very knowledgeable Social Security representative, and receive valuable information. Open to faculty and staff. No registration is required.

“Understanding Your CalPERS Retirement Benefits”
This hands-on informational workshop provides a brief overview of the CalPERS program and an introduction to the CalPERS retirement information available on-line. Participants will navigate through the CalPERS Web site, and learn how to access the CalPERS online retirement calculator, service credit purchase information, the annual member statement, and other information. Computer access will be available for hands-on learning. Additional topics include benefits at retirement and the process/steps for submitting the CalPERS retirement application. All CalPERS members are welcome to attend. This workshop is highly recommended for employees who meet the CalPERS vesting requirement. This session will be repeated monthly.
