Maulana Karenga, Black Studies, presented a paper titled “Molefi Asante and the Afrocentric Initiative: Mapping His Intellectual Impact” and was awarded a “Certificate for Scholarly Achievement” at “Retrospective on the Achievements of Molefi Kete Asante at 65: An Invitational Seminar,” ANKH Institute, Philadelphia, Sept. 15. He also presented a paper “King Tutankhamen and the African Character of Egypt: Beyond Mystification and the Falsification of History,” the Franklin Institute Science Museum, Philadelphia, Aug. 16. In addition, he lectured on “Leadership, Labor and the Black Community: An Intersection of Interests and Struggles,” UCLA African American Union Leadership School, African American Cultural Center, Los Angeles, Aug. 25. Moreover, he was selected as a “Living Legend” for his accomplishments as “a world-renowned scholar, author, professor, master teacher, leader and creator of Kwanzaa” and featured with a lengthy biography in the section titled “Los Angeles Sentinel’s Legends,” Los Angeles Sentinel, Oct. 27, p. Ingrid M. Martin, Marketing, and Wade E. Martin, Economics, presented their research at the Winter American Marketing Association meetings held in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 15. Their research, titled "Understanding Disaster Subcultures as a Means to Increase Risk Mitigation Efforts," addresses the issues that people living in high wildfire risk areas need to consider in order to reduce their risk from future wildfires.
Henry Po, Thach Ho, and Ximeng Wang, Chemistry and Biochemistry, co-authored a paper with Univeristy of California, Irvine's F. Freeman, titled, "Electrochemical Oxidation of 2-Pyrimidinethiols and Theoretical Study of Their Dimers, Didulfides, Sulfenyl Radicals, a and Tautomers." The paper was published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2008, Vol. 112, pp. 1643-1655.

Victor M. Rodriguez, Chicano and Latino Studies, published a column”Rebuilding the Pro-Immigrant Movement: Lessons from MacArthur” on two Latino Websites, Hispanic Vista and LatinoLA on May 5. Together with Emily Drew, Willamette College, Oregon., he co-led a seminar from May 14-18, titled “Building Anti-Racist Multicultural Objectives into the Curriculum.” With 20 members of the faculty at Moorhead State University, Minnesota., he made a plenary presentation on “New Perspectives on Institutional Racism: Institutional Theory of Inequality and Color-Blind Ideology” to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America national gathering of leaders of color held in Los Angeles July 12. He was invited to lecture on “Puerto Rican History: An Institutional Perspective” by the Puerto Rican Project Seminar on Nov. 3. Also, he reviewed the second edition of David Abalos’ Latinos in the United States: The Sacred and the Political for Notre Dame University Academic Press. His book review essay of Puerto Rico in the American Century: A History Since 1898 edited by Cesar Ayala and Rafael Bernabe of Chapel Hill, N.C.’s University of North Carolina Press, was published in Puerto Rico’s weekly Claridad, Oct. 25-31, pp. 22-24. His book chapter “The Racialization of Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans and Asians, 1890s-1930s” was published in the book edited by John N. Tsuchida, Juan M. Benítez and Dean S. Toji, Education; Youth, Leadership and Labor: Asian Pacific American and Latino Perspectives in CSULB’s Center for Asian Pacific American Studies.

Victor C. X. Wang, Professional Studies, contributed eight research articles to a groundbreaking encyclopedia, making his total number of publications more than 60. Published by IGI Publishing and edited by President Lawrence Tomei of Robert Morris University, The Encyclopedia of Information Technology Curriculum Integration amasses a comprehensive resource of concepts, methodologies, models, architectures, applications, enabling technologies, and best practices for integrating technology into the curriculum at all levels of education. Wang has one or more contributions in four of the six major sections of the encyclopedia, which covers literary, collaboration, decision-making, learning, teaching and technology. The eight articles include discussion groups, distance learning specialists, active learning online, classroom without borders, transformative learning, fundamentals of learning theories, distance learning and learning style, and distance learning essentials.
Frederick Wegener, English, recently published an article, "The Literary Representation of Women Doctors in the United States, 1860-1920," in Literature Compass. Last May, at the American Literature Association conference in Boston, he presented a paper, "Marriage and the American Medical Woman in Dr. Breen's Practice," subsequently awarded the 2007 Howells Prize by the William Dean Howells Society.
