If you are looking for somewhere on the CSULB campus to hold a meeting, Latoria Iiams has just the place for you.
A well-kept secret, the Pyramid Annex Conference Center is the newest full-service meeting space at the university, and is on the second floor in the Pyramid Annex Building, which is located on the north end of campus. The state-of-the-art conference center can handle events with up to 108 individuals attending and can be set up in various configurations to meet a group's needs.
“It’s a beautiful room and perfect for groups looking for that out-of-the-office experience,” said Iiams, venue operations and conference services coordinator in Parking and Transportation Services. “Of course we want to cater to our internal organizations, but a lot of folks just don’t know that it’s here and available to them. It’s also available to off-campus organizations as well.”
The room, which is 1,694 square feet, is considered a “smart room” and features an outdoor veranda for coffee breaks or just gathering, along with amenities such as hand-held wireless controls, room lighting, blackout shades, overhead projector and screen.
“It’s all automated,” said Iiams, “so if you are making a presentation, it makes everything look effortless because you are controlling the lights, the screen. It has a lot of great features that you don’t have in most class rooms and people are loving the room.”
The center has been open for the last 18 months, already hosting numerous events ranging from department meetings to a two-day Chancellor’s Office energy service agreement event and, recently, the reception dinner for the Mark Twain event on campus.
“We’re not in any competition with anyone on campus,” said Iiams, “but we just want to make people aware that this is another place to go. I try to be the first-stop service so people have all the information they need when it comes to catering, parking needs, etc.”
