Staff Training and Development Opportunities

Staff Employee Discount Program

Staff Human Resources and University College and Extension Services (UCES) are pleased to offer the CSULB Staff Employee Discount Program for UCES Professional Development for non-credit courses and programs. This program entitles CSULB staff employed for six months or more (full-time temporary/permanent or part-time permanent) to a 30 percent discount on select UCES Professional Development courses and programs. Courses covered under this program include:

  • Human Resource Management Certificate program
  • Professional Meeting and Event Planning program
  • Global Logistics Specialist program,
  • IT Technology and Engineering courses
  • AutoCAD and UNIX courses
  • Forensic Science and the High Tech Crime Certificate programs
  • Senior Level Human Resource Management Certificate program and on-camera leadership course
  • Courses in Photography, Animation, and Writing for TV are also periodically offered

Professional Development Grant Program

The Professional Development Grant Program, sponsored by Staff Human Resources, provides financial support for any staff employee who wants to pursue job-related and/or skill-enhancing training opportunities. “University Print Shop Online Ordering System”
This hands-on workshop introduces the Print Shop’s new online ordering system. Learn the steps needed to easily place most Print Shop and Quick Copy orders online and how to automatically see a proof of your business card, letterhead or envelope.

Thursday, Feb. 14 / 2-4 p.m.
“Understanding You CalPERS Retirement Benefits”
This informational workshop provides a brief overview of the CalPERS program and an introduction to the CalPERS retirement information available online. Participants will navigate through the CalPERS Web site and learn how to access the CalPERS online retirement calculator, service credit purchase information, the annual member statement and other information. Computer access will be available for hands-on learning. Additional topics include benefits at retirement and the process for submitting the CalPERS retirement application. This workshop is highly recommended for employees who meet the CalPERS vesting requirement, but all CalPERS members are welcome to attend. This session will be repeated monthly. “Travel Workshop”
This three-hour workshop is presented by the AP Manager and Travel Accounting staff and is open to all faculty and staff who travel on university business, or arrange travel for university staff. It is designed to provide information for making travel arrangements and completing the paperwork for yourself, supervisors, co-workers or guests of the university. It is an interactive workshop and time will be provided for questions.

“Managing Employee Attendance”
This training is intended to provide an overview of the attendance management practices used for staff employees at CSULB, and to review the ways in which these practices are applied on a daily basis. The training also touches on how to manage employees with attendance issues, and how attendance issues can affect your department as a whole. For MPP only.
