Charles Roberts, Professor emeritus of physics and astronomy, passed away Dec. 6. Roberts came to the campus in the late 1950s and served as the department chair from 1960-69. He was a very loyal and dedicated member of the department, continuing to come to many CSULB commencement ceremonies after his retirement.
Robert E. Strain, a professor emeritus of Economics, passed away on December 14 at the age of 92. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 70 years; daughters, Karyl Owen and Karen Bauer; sons, Robert and John: and 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Strain was the third faculty member appointed to the economics department and joined the faculty in 1956. He retired in 1978 as a FERP member and continued to teach until 1983. Professor Strain was instrumental in creating the Fundamentals of Economics course (ECON 300), which continues to be a popular course among students.
