HSI Grant Aimed at Reducing
Risks to Overweight Children
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a $295,000 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) grant to the NCLR/CSULB Center for Latino Community Health, Evaluation and Leadership Training for a project aimed at empowering the Long Beach Latino community in reducing the risk of maternal obesity and overweight children.
Engineering Receives $100,000 Endowment
The College of Engineering at CSULB has received a $100,000 endowment from The Beavers Charitable Trust to provide scholarships for graduate students majoring in civil engineering and construction engineering management with special preference given to students who have an interest in the heavy construction industry.

CSULB ranks fifth in the nation among master's degree-granting institutions in producing Fulbright Awards for U.S. students in 2007-08, according to the Oct. 26 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Educational Talent Search Program
Receives Two Awards from DOE
CSULB’s Educational Talent Search Program has been selected to receive two awards of $497,929 and $226,600 annually for the next four years from the U.S. Department of Education to continue its educational opportunity outreach efforts with students in local middle schools and high schools.
