Faculty and Staff Can Use Zimride to Find Carpooling Opportunities
Published: November 3, 2009Parking and Transportation Services at CSULB has partnered with Zimride, the leading provider of online social rideshare and carpool matching systems in North America, to build a new carpool community at the campus.
The Zimride platform connects members through an easy-to-use private network that helps reduce campus traffic, parking difficulties and gasoline usage while also providing substantial cost-savings for the community.
Through Zimride’s Web-based interface, faculty and staff are able to find others from the CSULB community with similar commuting patterns or one-time rides. Zimride’s system utilizes social network platforms such as Facebook to develop trust and feedback among users.
“Zimride is a simple way for Cal State Long Beach faculty, staff and students to find classmates and co-workers who are going the same way they are,” said Elissa Thomas, rideshare coordinator at CSULB. “Earlier this month, for Rideshare Week, we hosted a special registration event and more than 400 people signed up to be part of the campus’ Zimride community.”
Those signing up at the registration event spun a prize wheel for a chance to win a variety of prizes or qualify for the grand prize — a deluxe car detailing from Circle Marina Hand Car Wash valued at $165. The winner of the grand prize was Cesar M. Alcantara, a staff member in the purchasing/receiving area of the 49er Shops.
All CSULB faculty, staff and students can access the CSULB Zimride rideshare community for free.
