Former U.S. Senator, Florida Governor Bob Graham To Lecture, Sign Books at CSULB Oct. 6Published: October 1, 2009
Former U.S. Senator and Florida Governor Bob Graham will visit the CSULB campus on Tuesday, Oct. 6, to talk about his latest book and to deliver a lecture in two different classes.
Members of the campus community are invited to join Sen. Graham for a conversation and book-signing in the University Bookstore. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the senator will discuss his latest book – “America, The Owner’s Manual: Making Government Work for You.”
In the book, Graham shows citizens how to influence public policy decisions made in Washington D.C., state capitals like Sacramento, and local governments. By teaching the skills most important to effective citizen participation and relying on real-life examples of university students and other Americans who have used those skill to influence their communities, Graham helps provide a road map for any citizen who wants to produce change but isn’t sure how.
In addition to a conversation and book-signing in the morning, Graham will address students in a political science class at 2 p.m. followed by a group of students in a history class at 3:30 p.m., focusing on the message of his book.
For more than 40 years, Graham has been actively engaged in government as a former Florida state legislator, governor, U.S. senator and, most recently, as a classroom professor. He served two successful terms as the governor of Florida from 1979-87 and was a U.S Senator for the state from 1987-2005.
