Academic Personnel Changes Name to “Faculty Affairs”Published: July 15, 2009
In an effort to provide greater clarity about its service to faculty and its role on campus, the Office of Academic Personnel has changed its name to the Office of Faculty Affairs, effective July 1.
Led by Associate Vice President Holly Harbinger, Faculty Affairs is responsible for all personnel processes, policies, and procedures for probationary and tenured faculty, retired faculty and lecturers. The name was changed in an effort to clarify that the office oversees faculty personnel matters only. Personnel matters for university staff members are overseen by Staff Human Resources in the Division of Administration and Finance.
“There has been chronic confusion, both on and off campus, regarding what we do and the specific constituency that we serve – faculty,” Harbinger said. “This change reflects standard nomenclature in the profession and aligns us with the majority of our sister CSU campuses, including San Diego, Northridge, Pomona, and San Jose, which also use the name “Faculty Affairs.”
The change will not incur any expense and is being reflected in the administrative timetable, the university directory, and on the CSULB Web site.
