Sonya Lee to Perform Evening Concert at Japanese GardenPublished: June 15, 2009
Classical pianist Sonya Kumiko Lee will perform an evening concert under the stars at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at CSULB on Friday, June 26.
At 6:30 p.m., guests can enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres while strolling through the 1.3-acre garden prior to the 7 p.m. concert.
The Juilliard-trained Lee, who grew up in Orange County, will perform Beethoven, Liszt, Ginastera and Chopin. Her numerous U.S. performances include concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as in Japan and France. Her 2007-08 season included her seventh appearance at the Colly Soleri Music Center at Arcosanti, Ariz., and as a guest artist at the dedication of the David Oppenheim Concert Series in New York City.
As a chamber musician, Lee has collaborated with members of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, among others. She also has been a guest lecturer at New York University’s Drama Department and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
Tickets for the concert are $60 general admission or $50 for members of the Japanese Garden. Proceeds will benefit the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden’s public and educational programs.
