Mayoral Candidates To DebatePublished: March 17, 2014
CSULB’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Press-Telegram, will host a debate among Long Beach mayoral candidates on Wednesday, March 19. The event, moderated by the Press-Telegram’s Rich Archbold, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Beach Auditorium in the campus’ University Student Union.
The participating candidates include Councilman Robert Garcia, Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, Long Beach City College Trustee Doug Otto, former NFL player and real estate investor Damon Dunn and Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal (D-Long Beach).
In addition to moderator Archbold, the three debate panelists will include Faculty Senate Chair Daniel O’Connor, Daily 49er editor in chief Daniel Serrano and Press-Telegram city editor Melissa Evans. Questions will also be solicited from the audience.
Candidates will share their views on a wide array of topics, including the financial condition of the city, the Port of Long Beach, redevelopment, marijuana tax, bicycles, arts and culture.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Lot 4 near the Student Union.
