Ida Mae Howard, a custodian at CSULB for 15 years from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, passed away on June 7 at the age of 83.
Born Dec. 3, 1929 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La., to Levi Singleton Sr. and Mable Singleton, she attended Booker T. Washington High School where she completed the 10th grade. She married Elvie Howard Sr. in New Orleans and in 1962 they moved Long Beach, where she became a member of Christ Second Baptist Church.
Howard is survived by her brother Earl Singleton of New Orleans, two sons—Elvie Howard Jr. (Sharon) and Tyrone Howard (Avis), three daughters—Helena Anderson, Sandra Jackson (Larry) and Audrey Viney (Scott), step-daughter Betty Scie (Peter), 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
