Angela Aleiss, Information Systems, recently saw one of her photos of Los Angeles mayoral candidates Wendy Greuel and Eric Garcetti appear in the daily Los Angeles Times blog. Aleiss also saw her article titled “Who Was the Real James Young Deer? The Mysterious Identity of the Pathè Producer Finally Comes to Light” published in the Bright Lights Film Journal, Vol. 80, May. The article detailed the life and heritage of an early 20th century West Coast film producer long believed to be of Winnebago Indian descent. His heritage actually lay within a secluded tri-racial community of Delaware.
Steve Fleck, Romance/German/Russian Languages and Literatures, gave an invited presentation, “Aborder ‘Le Malade imaginaire’ comme spectacle total” to a graduate seminar in the UC Berkeley French Department on April 25.
Neil Hultgren, English, gave a presentation, “Sweating to the Oldies: Stevenson and Medieval French Verse Forms” at the 19th Century Studies Association national conference held in Fresno in March.
