Michael Blazey, Recreation and Leisure Studies, was recognized in the “Volunteer Spotlight” feature of the February edition of Parks and Recreation, the official publication of the National Recreation and Park Association, for his service as chair of the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions.

Kirstyn Chun, Counseling and Psychological Services, was awarded the Distinguished Contribution to Ethnic Minority Issues Award by the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 44, Society for the Psychological Study of the LGBT Issues, at the annual APA Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Kristi Hagans, Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling, was appointed to the California Department of Education’s Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE). It is an advisory body required by federal and state statutes that provides recommendations and advice to the State Board of Education, the superintendent of public instruction, the Legislature and the governor in new or continuing areas of research, program development and evaluation pertaining to special education in California. The ACSE consists of appointed members from the speaker of the assembly, Senate Committee on Rules, governor and the State Board of Education. The membership consists of parents, persons with disabilities, persons knowledgeable about the administration of special education, teachers and legislative representation from the Assembly and Senate. Terms are for four years.

Carlos Hipolito-Delgado, Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling, has been elected president for the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) for the 2014-15 term. AMCD is a division of the American Counseling Association that seeks to develop programs to improve ethnic and racial empathy and understanding. Its activities are designed to advance and sustain personal growth and improve educational opportunities for members from diverse cultural backgrounds. Hipolito-Delgado will begin his official duties as president-elect on July 1.
