Campus Veteran’s Day Event Set For Nov. 9 At Speakers PlatformPublished: November 1, 2012
CSULB will host a ceremony in honor of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 9, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Speakers Platform in front of the University Bookstore.
All veterans, their families and friends are invited to join the campus community as it recognizes the nation’s military veterans, especially the more than 450 student veterans currently attending CSULB. The event is being presented by CSULB’s Office of Veterans Affairs Services.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors who are veterans or bring a picture of a veteran who cannot attend the event.
Once the veterans recognition event is concluded, there will be a birthday cake ceremony in honor of the 237th Marine Corps birthday, which is officially on Nov. 10.
“We have many former Marines on campus, so we thought recognizing the corps’ birthday would be appropriate,” said Marshall Thomas, director of Veterans Affairs Services at CSULB. “As part of the ceremony, the traditional birthday message first delivered in 1921 by the 13th commandant of the Marine Corps, General John A. Lejuene, will be read as will the birthday message from the current commandant, General James F. Amos.”
Those planning to attend should use the Beach Drive entrance to the campus from Bellflower Boulevard and stop at the Visitor Information Center (located on the right after the first stop sign) for directions to the Speakers Platform and information about parking.
