New 50-Plus Fitness Center Celebrates Grand OpeningPublished: October 1, 2012
The grand opening of CSULB’s newest fitness facility, the LifeFit Center @ The Beach, will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
Dedicated to enhancing the physical health of adults 50 years old and above, the full-service gym is located in the northeast corner of the Kinesiology Building in rooms 106, 107, 110A and 110B. Exercise classes will include Stretch and Balance, Fit and Fun, Krank Circuit and Building Strength. All group fitness classes will accommodate beginner, intermediate and advanced participants, and instructors will be trained on how to modify and progress exercises to meet individual needs.
The LifeFit Center membership is open to Long Beach community members, CSULB faculty and staff, and requires concurrent membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Member registration will take place at the LifeFit Center service desk in the Kinesiology Building, room 106.
“There are not many facilities and programs like this in the United States,” said Ayla Donlin, director of the LifeFit Center @ The Beach, who is also a lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and received her M.S. degree in kinesiology from CSULB in 2008. At present, she is in the second year of study for her Ed.D. degree from CSULB’s Educational Leadership Department. “We really have the unique opportunity as a campus to welcome the Long Beach 50-plus community onto our campus and into our programming, and to foster intergenerational relationships that encourage lifelong pursuits of health, wellness and learning. The possibilities for growth and collaboration are bountiful, and we at the LifeFit Center are excited to get things rolling.”
