The Hospitality Management Program at CSULB has been awarded affiliation status with the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation’s (AH&LEF) Annual Scholarship Grant Program.

Under this program, AH&LEF will allocate $3,000 annually from the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) Scholarship Fund for distribution to qualified undergraduate students in CSULB’s hospitality program. Recipients of the scholarships, which will be awarded for the first time at CSULB for the 2012-13 academic year, will be known as ALIS Scholars.

There are a total of 85 two- and four-year schools participating in the AH&LEF program nationwide, and CSULB was one of only five of 15 schools applying this year that were added to the program.

“This scholarship program that will now be available to our students through this newly acquired grant affiliation will truly aid in student success,” said Lee Blecher, professor and director of CSULB’s Hospitality Management Program. “It’s really an honor that our program was selected, and it shows that the national recognition of the program continues to grow. We are very excited about this advancement, especially for the students in the program.”

CSULB faculty will nominate qualified students, and those nominations will go forward with the student’s application to the AH&LEF. The amount a student receives depends on how many students are nominated. The number of nominees is yet to be determined, but faculty have developed a nomination screening process for students.
