Women and Philanthropy, Lowe’s Combine For Tool Time On Dec. 13Published: December 1, 2011
Women and Philanthropy at CSULB and Lowe’s Home Improvement Store will host a seminar on Tuesday, Dec. 13, where attendees have the opportunity to learn about maintenance tools and techniques that can help improve their home. The event from be held at the Lowe’s at 2840 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach,from 4-5:30 p.m.
Formed in 1998, Women and Philanthropy is made up of alumnae and friends of the university and creates opportunities for students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic success, an intellectual curiosity, an innovative spirit that stimulates creative and scientific research, and a financial need. Through scholarships, members have helped expand the boundaries of cancer research, ensure a pipeline of highly qualified professionals for various business, entertainment and healthcare professions, and make students more competitive in today’s global market.
Currently, all of the funds raised through member contributions are used for student scholarships. During its short history, the membership has awarded 75 scholarships totaling approximately $116,000. There are two award categories—scholarships for research and creative activity, and scholarships for re-entering students. To qualify for a scholarship, individuals must be undergraduates with a five-year break in their education progress, 25 years of age or older, presently enrolled in six or more units, have an overall grade point average of 2.5, and the ability to demonstrate financial need.
