Cherishing Children Holiday Party Seeks Donated Toys And Supplies

Published: December 15, 2011

Because of an external construction crew error, all of the supplies, decorations and extra toys for the annual CSULB Cherishing Children Holiday Party for underprivileged children were inadvertently discarded from a campus office.

Event coordinator Bob Rodgers of Academic Technology Services said donations are needed prior to the Wednesday, Dec. 14 event, including gift-wrapping supplies such as paper, adhesive tape and scissors; toys that are given as gifts and as game and guest prizes; and room decorations. Financial donations also will be accepted. Those donating money will receive a list of items purchased and all donors can receive a receipt for tax purposes.

For the past 13 years, CSULB has hosted a party for children of low-income families served by Long Beach area community agencies, supported and funded entirely by donations from campus staff, students, administrators, faculty and alumni. Extra toys are given to the American Red Cross and the Long Beach Fire Department for other needy children.

Currently, new unwrapped toys are being accepted at the following campus locations:

• Audio Visual Services (LA 1, Room 107)
• CNSM (Hall of Science, Room 160)
• Facilities Management
• Foundation Building
• Horn Center
• University Bookstore
• University Library
• University Police

The 14th Annual CSULB Cherishing Children Toy Drive and runs through Friday, Dec. 16.
