Support Textbook Scholarships by Purchasing a Piggybank PlacardPublished: November 17, 2008
Last spring, 60 students applied for a 49er Textbook Scholarship and the first set of scholarships was recently awarded to 10 of those students for Fall 2008. It is anticipated that there will be a minimum of 100 applications this semester, demonstrating the student need for assistance in purchasing textbooks.
The 49er Textbook Scholarship Program was created through a partnership of the Center for Scholarship Information, the Division of Student Services and 49er Shops, Inc. to support students in need. The goal of the program is to raise $149,000 to build an endowed scholarship in order to provide a minimum of 30 scholarships annually to deserving CSULB students. These scholarships will increase student access to textbooks and allow them to focus more on their academic success. To date, the program has raised $62,000 in working towards its goal of $149,000.
The next phase of fundraising efforts, which begins Monday, Nov. 3, will involve piggybank placards. All CSULB community members are invited to participate by contributing $1 or more at any 49er Shops’ location and write their name on a piggybank placard which will then be displayed to show your support. All proceeds support the 49er Textbook Scholarship Program. This fundraiser will continue through Friday, Nov. 21.
