Dorothy de Araujo Memorial Scholarship Expanded

Published: April 15, 2010

The Dorothy de Araujo Memorial Scholarship at CSULB has been expanded in 2010 to include staff members and students in the Art Department. In the past, only undergraduate and graduate students whose parents or grandparents are staff employees or emeriti of CSULB and its auxiliaries were eligible. The deadline to apply for the $1,000 scholarship is Monday, May 3.

Art students and children of staff employees or retirees must be enrolled in 12 or more units, graduate students must be enrolled in nine or more units, and staff members must be enrolled in six units or two classes. Families of faculty members are not eligible. The scholarship recipient will be given a Beach Card that can be used at CSULB for books and supplies. The grade point average requirement is 2.8.

The award is given by the Staff Emeriti Association in honor of de Araujo, a CSULB staff emerita and alumna. She worked at the university from 1959-83 and earned her BFA degree in 1992 in drawing and painting at the age of 72. On Sept. 11, 2001, she was on a plane returning to California and passed away in the tragedy in New York City.
