Spring Registration Meeting for Osher Institute Set for April 10Published: April 2, 2010
Registration for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at CSULB spring session will be held Saturday, April 10, beginning at 9 a.m. in CSULB’s Human Services and Design building, Room 101, near the corner of Palo Verde Avenue and Anaheim Road. Free parking for this event is available in Lot 9. The spring session runs from April 19 through June 14.
OLLI is offering a host of exciting lecture classes this spring, including new courses titled Exploring Roman Art; English As A Second Language; Religions and Culture of India; History of Commercial Aviation; and Heritage Planning. Returning this session will be Genealogy; Basic Conversational Spanish; Drawing and Watercolor Workshops; and Timeless Design. For those looking to improve their health and endurance, OLLI offers Tai Chi Chih, and Longevity Stick. Osher will also be offering two classes on Saturday — Long Beach Historic Districts Walking Tours and Gardening. New computer class offerings this session include: Word 2008 and My Laptop and Me. OLLI computer classes are conducted in a 10-seat PC- and Mac- equipped lab by skilled instructors.
Additionally, Richard Black will facilitate a course on employment skills for OLLI Downtown’s spring session. The class will include job sources, resumes, applications, reference sheets, thank you notes as well as an original effective interview technique. Black, the author of YES! Assertive Techniques for Successful Employment, will provide a copy of his book to all those taking the six-week course which begins April 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
OLLI currently has three convenient locations for classes – HS&D Building on the CSULB campus, Room 101, 119, Lab and the Design Building Room 121; OLLI Downtown at 737 Pine Avenue, Suite 202 in Long Beach; and OLLI Leisure World, 13533 Seal Beach Blvd. in Seal Beach.
OLLI at CSULB’s annual membership fee of $40 covers the fall; spring; winter; and summer sessions. Tuition is $10 per lecture class and $45 per computer class. Parking permits are available for a fee.
