-
Upon discovering a fire, close the
door to the room where the fire is
located
and immediately sound the building
fire alarm.
-
Next, call the University Police
at 9-1-1. Give your name, phone number,
and location of fire. DO NOT
HANG UP until the police
dispatcher tells you to do so.
-
If the fire is small, you may wish
to fight it with a fire extinguisher.
ALWAYS
do step 1 and 2 first, then using
the proper type of extinguisher attempt
to
extinguish the fire. If you are not
sure, do NOT attempt to extinguish
the fire.

or rapid-spreading, evacuate the building
immediately. Inform others who may
not
have responded to the alarm to immediately
evacuate. The alarm may not sound
continuously. If the alarm stops, continue
to evacuate.
Warn others who may enter the building
after the alarm stops.
-
If time permits, take purses, lock
files, and close office doors before
leaving.
Walk, do not run, to the nearest
exit. If you have mobility impairment,
request
assistance, proceed to the nearest
stairway landing and shout for assistance.
-
When a fire alarm sounds, do NOT
use the elevators to evacuate a building.

and
become a trap. Give assistance to
all disabled persons needing help in
evacuating
the building.

500 feet from the building and stay
out of
the way of emergency personnel. Do

maybe, a person trapped or injured
inside the building immediately contact
