Emergency Preparedness Information

Crimes in Progress

  1. Do not attempt to apprehend or interfere with the criminal except in the case of self defense.

  2. If safe to do so, take the time to get a good description of the criminal. Note height, weight, sex, race, approximate age, clothing worn, method and direction of travel, and name if known. This takes only a few seconds of time and is of the utmost value to investigating officers. If the criminal uses a car note the license plate, make, model, color and any outstanding characteristics.

  3. Call the University Police at 9-1-1. Give your name, location, and reason for calling. DO NOT HANG UP. The Police Dispatcher may have additional questions for you as they are sending police units to the scene.

  4. In the event of a civil disturbance, continue inasmuch as possible with your normal routine. If the disturbance is outside, stay away from doors and windows.

  5. Do not interfere with those persons creating the disturbance or with law enforcement authorities at the scene.
