Long Beach State baseball supporters are endowing a scholarship in the name of Bob Wuesthoff, who coached the 49ers from 1964 to 1969 and won the program’s first conference title.
Above, supporters include, from left, front, Rick Hayes and Rod Gaspar, and from rear, John Gonsalves, John McConnell, Wuesthoff, and Barry Wallace. They hope to raise $150,000 over five years.
Wuesthoff’s teams compiled a 161-101-4 record over six years. He continued teaching in the Physical Education Department and served as associate and interim athletic director. He was named professor emeritus in 1989. Additionally, he has run the 49er summer camps for children for more than four decades.
