Cypress College named music Professor Helena DeCoro (1968, B.A.; 1971, M.A., music) as its outstanding full-time faculty member for 2004-05. She teaches voice and opera classes and is executive director of its arts patrons program.
Thomas J. Donner (1969, B.S., business administration–finance; 1975, MBA) received the 2005 Walter Robie Award for Outstanding Chief Business Officer from the Association of Chief Business Officials, a California community college organization. He has been with Santa Monica College for 29 years and served as its interim president last year.
Hyundai Motor America appointed M. Keith Duckworth (1969, B.S., criminal justice) as acting chief operating officer in January. Last August, he was named deputy president and chief administrative officer of Hyundai’s Montgomery, Ala., manufacturing plant.
James A. Murphy (1969, MBA) has been a partner in the Irvine, Calif., law firm of Murtaugh Meyer Nelson & Treglia since 1991, specializing in labor, employment and benefits law. He previously was a senior counsel for Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Patricia Black (1970, B.A., psychology; 1984, credential; 1988, M.A, education–counseling) is a guidance counselor at Ball Junior High, Anaheim, Calif.
Marlene Canter (1970, B.A., social work) is serving a one-year term as president of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. She first was elected to the board in 2001. She was a special education teacher and co-founded Canter & Associates, a teacher education provider now part of Laureate Education Inc.
Frank P. Young (1970, B.A., radio/TV/film) is a member of an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms federal task force as a Washington state tobacco tax enforcement representative.
Arthur J. Farrar (1971, B.S., criminal justice) is chair of the Criminal Justice Department at Monterey Peninsula College and received an MPC Foundation George J. Faul Grant for Academic Excellence to develop the college’s first online course in administration of justice. He also founded AJF and Associates, a management consulting and training firm specializing in criminal justice matters.
The National Art Education Association selected Sandra Berseid Ben-Haim (1972, B.A., art) as the 2005 Western Region Museum Art Educator of the Year. She is curator of education at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, N.D.
Limoneira Co., a Santa Paula, Calif., land, farming and food firm, promoted Don Delmatoff (1972, B.S., business administration–marketing) to vice president of finance and administration. He joined the firm as controller in 2000 and was its chief financial officer.
Richard McKee (1972, B.S.; 1974, M.S., chemistry) is a chemistry professor at Pasadena City College and also is president of Californians Aware, an organization that advocates for First Amendment and public forum rights.
Attorney Troy D. Roe (1972, B.A., public administration) has spent seven years as a “neutral,” a professional dispute mediator. He earned his law degree at Pepperdine University and now works for Judicate West in Santa Ana, Calif.
Robert G. Atkins (1973, B.A., entomology; 1994, M.P.A.) is the chief deputy of the Los Angeles County Agricultural Commission Weights and Measures Department. The joint agency manages agricultural issues as well as oversees commercial weight and price scales and meters.
Gary J. Wright (1973, B.A., journalism) spent a busy spring as vice president of administration for the Seattle Seahawks football team, which earned a berth at Super Bowl XL in February. The former CSULB sports information director has been with the Seahawks since 1976.
Steven G. Self (1974, B.S., zoology; 1977, M.S., biology) is a professor of biostatistics at the University of Washington’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He also is a member of the United States Food and Drug Administration Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee and is director of the Statistical and Data Management Center of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network.

Former NFL player Reggie Berry (1977, B.A., sociology) founded the Goals for Life program to help Southern California at-risk youth develop beneficial personal skills and discipline. He played football with the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos.
Cal State L.A. named Daniel L. Bridges (1977, B.S., physical education; 1982, M.A., kinesiology and physical education) as its new director of intercollegiate athletics. Bridges has a Ph.D. from UCLA and has been an athletic director in Southern California for more than 16 years.
Michael J. Siddons (1977, B.S., business administration–management) creates custom-made wrought iron furniture and home and garden décor at his Manhattan Beach, Calif., studio. His clients include the Getty Museum and Disney Studios.
Janice Motoike (1978, B.A., dance) completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology in 2003 and now is a licensed psychologist in a community mental health agency in Arizona.
SurModics, a medical and pharmaceutical products company in Eden Prairie, Minn., appointed Paul A. Lopez (1979, B.S., business administration–accountancy) as vice president and president of the firm’s ophthalmology business unit, based in Irvine, Calif. He has more than 23 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
