VOAHA -Virtual Oral/Aural History Archive NEW!!
VOAHA makes available over 700 hours of original oral history recordings in women's history.

Incorporated into twelve separate series, including one on garment workers in the labor history collection, these interviews cover women's activism from the early 20th century suffrage, anarchist, labor, and socialist movements to the 1960s and 1970s women's liberation movement. The focus on women's work in the first five decades of the 20th century ranges from their labor in the cotton fields and the World War 2 aircraft industry to their path breaking careers in the professions and as entrepreneurs and entertainers in the period 1910-1930. Regardless of the focus of the interviews, the life histories of these 135 women document their daily lives, birth control practices (including abortions), and family and community relationships. Additional interviews with women in the Long Beach Area History collection help to shed light on their community involvement and institution building.
