Agency for Health Care Policy and Research
AHCPR was established in December 1989 under Public Law 101-239 (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989) as a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. AHCPR is the lead agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services.

Office of Minority Health (OPHS)
OMH was established in response to the 1985 Report of the Secretary's Task Force on Black and Minority Health which documented the disparities in health status indicators for racial and ethnic minority populations compared to the majority population. OMH was given responsibility for implementing the Task Force recommendations, as well as planning, coordinating, and monitoring activities across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that relate to disease prevention, health promotion, service delivery, and research concerning racial and ethnic minorities. OMH is part of the Office of Public Health and Science, which is under the direction of the Assistant Secretary for Health.
