How do I........Find articles about Kinesiology?

ABI Inform Global
This is a business database, but is a wonderful resource when looking for journal articles on sports management, sports and finance and sports marketing.

Academic Search Complete
This general subject database contains a dearth of information on sports, physical education, sports management and kinesiology. This is a partially full text database, meaning that about half of your search results will have the full text to the articles.

ERIC
While ERIC is the grandaddy of all education topics, this database is a great source for references to journal articles and ERIC documents on the education aspect of kinesiology as well as physical education, and teaching sports and physical education.

General Science Abstracts
This database is exactly as it sounds, general science. This database is helpful for researching a variety of scientific disciplines, including biology, anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise science.

Medline
From the National Library of Medicine, this database contains scholarly journal articles covering all areas of medicine, including anatomy and sports medicine.

Physical Education Index (Print index)
In addition to subjects from kinesiology and physical education, sports medicine, and dance, also covers recreation, sports law, and many other related topics.

PsycInfo
The one-stop-shop for a article information on psychology, and especially for sports psychology.

Science Direct
From one of the preminent scientific publishers, Science Direct is an excellent source for infomation on kinesiology, exercise science, anatomy and other areas of sports science.

SPORT Discus
This database covers the practical and research literature in sport and fitness; also includes indexing from the previous Sport & Leisure bibliographic database of SIRLS, covering the research literature for the social and psychological aspects of sport.

Wiley Interscience
Yet another wonderful science database that helps in doing research on kinesiology, exercise science, anatomy and other areas of sports science.

Gatorade Sports Science Institute
With the goal of "sharing knowledge on sports nutrition and exercise science," this site contains a library of research and resources from Gatorade scientists.

History of Women in Sports Timeline
Created by the St. Lawrence county Branch of the American Association of University Women, this web site contains a detailed history of women's participation in sports from ancient times to the present.

MedlinePlus Guide to Sports Injuries
Published by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, this site features treatment and prevention information for many common sports injuries. The site also includes research, statistics, and news related to athletic safety and injury prevention.

P.E. Central
Designed as an information resource for physical education teachers, this site offers lesson planning ideas, best practices, and government standards. The site also features a job center and resume hosting service.

SBRNet
SBRNet is the market research and publications database of the Sport Business Research Network. While most of the data is via subsription, there is plently of valuable free information on this site. (For sport business research, see ABI Inform Global in the Find Articles section above.)

Scholarly Sport Sites

Co-created by the University of Calgary Library, the North American Sport Library Network (NASLIN) and the International Association for Sports Information (IASI), this site lists scholarly web sites for sports students, specialists, and researchers.

SportQuest
From our friends at SIRC (the folks who bring us the SportDiscus database), this is their directory of websites that offers information and links for nearly 100 different sports, as well as sports science and general physical fitness resources.

The Virtual Library of Sport
This international website, updated by volunteer sports specialist librarians, offers information, history, and scoreboards for over 100 different sports worldwide.

About.com Guide to Careers in Sports Medicine
This site offers a good overview of different career options in the sports and fitness industries. It also provides links to career development resources for athletic professionals.

Online Sports Job Listing and Resume Bank
Search for career opportunities in the sports, recreation, and fitness industries. This site is updated regularly and allows you to post your resume to a searchable database.


Professional Association Sites

Amateur Athletic Foundation (AAF)
Funded with an endowment of surplus funds from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the mission of the AAF is "to serve youth through sport and to increase knowledge of sport and its impact on people's lives." Their site offers all kinds of information ranging from education for coaches to a digital archive and a library.

American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education
The AAKPE web site is designed to promote research and education in the areas of human movement and physical activity. The site offers free access to research and the AAKPE newsletter.

American Alliance for Health, Physical Recreation, & Dance (AAHPERD)
"AAHPERD is an alliance of six national associations, six district associations, and a research consortium which support healthy lifestyles through high quality programs." The official site offers recent news and information, information about joining the organization as well as a rich online resource center and a calendar of events.

American College of Sports Medicine
The ACSM web site provides research and education information for sports medicine professionals. The site also offers a wealth of free health and fitness information for non-ACSM members.

National Academy of Sports Medicine
The NASM web site offers sports and fitness professionals information and resources for certification, continuing education, and professional development.

National Association for Sport & Physical Education
The NASPE web site provides information and resources designed to "enhance knowledge and professional practice in sport and physical activity." The site also features accreditation information and a list of NASPE publications.

National Athletic Trainers' Association
The NATA web site provides information about sports injuries and the athletic training profession. It also features a career section as well as continuing education resources for athletic trainers.

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
The NCAA wb site contains information about college athletics, including guidelines for the administration and regulation of college athletic programs. The site also includes research and information about and for college athletes.
