Social Services Abstracts
This database is a must for social services research. It contains information on social work, human services and community development.
Sociological Abstracts
This database provides information on all aspects of the social and behavioral sciences and is a must for Gerontology research.

These internet sites have the "seal of approval" from the Gerontology librarian, and may be a useful starting point to do web research.

From AARP's research center, this searchable database provides all kinds of information on all aspects of aging from a global perspective.
Agingstats.gov
This is the official website of the Interagency Forum on aging-related statistics. The site's primary information comes in the form of their report which covers "aspects of the lives of older Americans and their families. It is divided into five subject areas: population, economics, health status, health risks and behaviors, and health care. It is available online in both html and pdf. "
Alzheimer's Disease: A Family Affair and Growing Social Problem
This site, from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, provides a helpful list of websites related to Alzheimer's Disease.
American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
This is the official site of the AARP, a "nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping older Americans
achieve lives of independence, dignity and purpose."
Access America for Seniors
This site is designed to provide "senior citizens, and anyone who works on their behalf, with one site where they can access government services and information. The federal government provides this site and offers information for senior citizens on benefits, health and nutrition, travel, employment, taxes, and more."
The Administration on Aging
The official government website for the AoA, it includes "information designed for Older Americans and their families as well as those concerned about providing the opportunities and services to enrich the lives of older persons and support their independence."
American Geriatrics Society
This is the official site of the American Geriatrics Society, the "premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults." The website provides practice guidelines, current news, professional development, press releases, consumer advice and more.
The Gerontological Society of America
Established in 1945, the GSA promotes the "scientific study of aging, encourages exchanges among researchers and practitioners from various disciplines related to gerontology, and fosters the use of gerontological research in forming public policy." This site provides various types of information including links to its newsletter, its publications, information on its meetings and proceedings etc.
GeroWeb
This website is the product of the GeroInformatics Workgroup at the Wayne State University's Institute of Gerontology, "GeroWeb is designed as an online resource for researchers, educators, practitioners, and others interested in aging and older individuals."
The Kansas Elder Law Network (KELN)
"The Kansas Elder Law Network, part of the Information Network of Kansas, is the nation's most comprehensive Website devoted to topics of interest to America's senior citizens and their advocates. Its databases are national in scope. The mission of the Kansas Elder Law Network is to provide nationwide electronic access, via the World Wide Web, to primary and secondary materials pertaining to the legal practice specialty known as "elder law"."
The Merck Manual of Geriatrics
"The Merck Manual of Geriatrics, first published in 1990, is now in its second edition. It focuses on the medical problems of the elderly, providing clinical information to all physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals involved in the care of elderly patients. Many non-health professionals also find it useful." The website breaks the manual down by chapter and is searchable.
Mr. Long Term Care
"Martin Bayne, co-founder of The National Long-Term Care Policy Institute, a not-for-profit advocacy group, is creator and publisher of the Mr. Long-Term Care(tm) web site." The web site touts itself as an "incubator for policy change and an Internet portal for public dialogue." The website provides news, information and a "link emporium" for all topics (ranging from accessibility to long term care to web guides) related to gerontology.
The National Aging Information Center
"This is the official online newsletter of the U.S. National Aging Information Center. It provides information about the agency and its programs. NAIC is part of the Administration on Aging which has programs for the elderly, information about resources for practitioners who serve the aged, statistical information on the aging, and information for consumers (older persons and their families) including how to obtain services for senior citizens."
Novartis Foundation for Gerontology
The Novartis Foundation for Gerontology supports education and innovation in healthy aging, geriatrics and in the care of elderly people. This interactive website provides interesting medical information related to geriatrics and gerontology.
Senior World Online
This online magazine publishes news articles, health columns, travel information, local community postings and more. It is published irregularly by the Senior Communications Group.
