How do I........Find books about FCS ED?

By using COAST- The CSULB Library's online catalog!

COAST is the way you check for books and other items that the library owns.  Here are some helpful searches you can try in COAST to find topics related to FCS ED!

To start, you can always do a KEYWORD search in Coast on your topic.  Keep in mind that in Coast, you will get more results if you use the term "Home Economics" rather than "Family & Consumer Sciences."

If you would like to do a subject search, I recommend the following SUBJECT searches:

Home economics -- Study and teaching
Home economics -- Teacher training
Home economics teachers
Home economics -- Vocational guidance

If you would like to browse the book stacks for books in this area, the call number range is TX164 - TX165 and they are on the 4th floor.

How do I.......Find articles about FCS ED?  By using our Research Databases!

Use the following databases to help you find journal articles related to FCS ED.  For a complete A-Z list (with descriptions) of all the research databases at the CSULB Library, please click HERE.

Academic Search Complete
This is an excellent, general, and partially full-text database that works well for finding some FCS and Education topics.

ERIC
This is the education database.  It covers all aspects of education and its topics.  This will aid in finding anything relating to teaching and communicating FCS.

PsycINFO
While this is the preminent pyschology database that covers all aspects of psychology, it covers a lot of FCS topics.  A must when searching for FCS information.

How do I........find internet sites related to FCS ED?

These internet sites have the "seal of approval" from the FCS librarian, and may be a useful starting point to do web research.

General FCS ED sites:

AAFCS
The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences' site is only national professional organisation for FCS.  The website is well organized into sections for students, educators, career opportunities, and much more.

Family & Consumer Sciences Education
The group that runs this site is a division of the Association for Career and Technical Education.  The FACSE site offers their vision and mission as well as national and state data, national standards and a bulletin board.

Family & Consumer Sciences Education Association
The FCSEA is "voluntary organization of family and consumer sciences educators and others associated with or interested in family and consumer sciences instruction in schools and colleges."  This is their site and they offer information on membership, events for the year, news and related links.

The Family & Consumer Science Resources Online
This very helpful and interactive page offers many valuable resources.  The webmaster, Kim Burge, has been an FCS teacher in Texas since 1979.  One warning about this site: it opens many pop up windows.

These websites are other Library Research Guides that can help with FCS ED:
