Books:
The library has an extensive cookbook collection containing many historical and contemporary cookbooks.  They are located on the 4th floor in the book stacks. The call number area is TX.

These websites are grouped together by topic.  This list is in no way meant to be comprehensive, just a sampling of what is out there.

This webography includes glossaries, dictionaries and links to numerous other nutrition and food websites.

Kitchen Link
This all encompassing site is (among other things) the master index to over 10,000 food and cooking links.

Mimi's Cyber Kitchen
Mimi's Cyber Kitchen claims it is the largest, most comprehensive food sites on the worldwide web, with links to thousands of food-related sites of all kinds, organized into 26 categories, and it's own collection of tried-and-true recipes.

Saute Wednesday
This site not only provides all kinds of information about food, but also provide links to almost every magazine and newspaper published in the U.S.  There are sections dedicated to chefs, culinary schools, dining guides as well as recipes and a place to search the site.


Online Food Journals/Magazines:

Better Homes and Gardens Online
Choose the food/recipes link and find interactive menus. Items like food buying tips, metric conversion charts, party ideas, shopping for a crowd, etc. Very much like the magazine and cookbooks provided by Better Homes and Gardens.

Epicurious Food
This site includes a food dictionary (Epicurious Dictionary), recipes, articles from Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines. There are guides to food, restaurants and liquid refreshments.

Global Gourmet
This electronic Gourmet Guide includes the online publications NetFood Digest and WineDay.

Vegetarian Times
This electronic version of Vegetarian Times print magazine and features recipes, web links, and health advice to vegetarians.


Recipes:

All Recipes.com
This all encompassing site lets you looks for recipes by category (appetizers, beverages, cookies, etc.) and has many neat features.  There is even a section to find recipes based on the diet plan you are on, such as Weight Watchers, South Beach etc.

Barbeque'n on the Internet
A wonderful source for anyone who loves to fire up the grill.  This site not only has great BBQ recipes (based on food type), but has sections on all kinds of grills, cooking temperatures, associations, a library, where to get free catalogs, and much much more.

CopyKat Recipes
Ever wonder how your faveorite restaurants make that special sauce or dish?  Want to make that special dish at home?  This site provides recipes for popular restaurant's dishes that you can make at home!  There are many other features on the site as well.

Culinary Cafe
A huge recipe index that also includes a Spice Encyclopedia!

Dinner Co-op Home Page
This searchable page, based in Pittsburgh PA is for lovers of food, folks who enjoy cooking and/or eating. There are more than 750 of dinner co-ops' favorite recipes, and then more than 3000 links to restaurants, shops, recipes and food information pages. 

Recipe Archives
An archive of the collected recipes sent to the rec.food.recipes newsgroup and other lists and web sites.  The recipes are arranged by category.

Recipes (Galaxy)
This is a search engines' collection of recipe pages. Nice place to start for the many that exist. Many links are of the major food companies "collections" of recipes.

RecipeSource.com
This recipe index is handy as it not only lists recipes by food type, but also by ethnic region.

State Fair Recipes.com
This website honors that slice o' Americana, the State Fair, and the food that is served there.  There is historical state fair information, as well as the recipes, all of which are award winners.

Spicy Cooking
This website is dedicated to all those who love to feel the heat....when it comes to food.  They list recipes by culture and even list U.S. bars and grilles who serve it up spicy.  The also feature a section called "Hot equals Health," which extolls the health benefits of spicy cooking.

Top Secret Recipes on the Web
Todd Wilbur, author of the Top Secret books, shares his recipes and more on his hilarious website.  Find out how to make Big Mac's, KFC's chicken and Orange Julius' in the comfort of your own home.

Yum Yum
A searchable database of approximately 20,000 recipes.  This site also has organized sections on topics such as chocolate, as well as an advice column.


General Food & Ingredients Information:

Cook's Thesaurus

Compiled by Lori Alden, The Cook's Thesaurus suggests substitutions for thousands of cooking ingredients, including low-calorie and low-fat alternatives for dieters, inexpensive substitutes for gourmets on a budget, and innovative replacements for hard-to-find ethnic ingredients. It also notes the drawbacks of many substitutes, so you can decide if it's worth the bother to track down the exact item your recipe recommends. 

Feeding America
"The Michigan State University Library and the MSU Museum have partnered to create an online collection of some of the most influential and important American cookbooks from the 19th and early 20th century. The goal of this project is to make these materials available to a wider audience."  There are digital images of each page in the cookbooks as well as the full text, and you can search it!

The Food Timeline
This amazing website is from the Morris County Library in New Jersey.  The site provides a food timeline, and corresponding recipes, if they have them.  Each individual food item is hyperlinked with more information.  This is truly worth looking at!

Key Ingredients - America by Food
This site is "the oinline educational companion to the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibition" of the same name.  It is broken down into three main areas: 500 years of American Food, The American Cookbook Project, and Eating Across America.

Not by Bread Alone:  America's Culinary Heritage
From the Rare and Manuscripts collection at Cornell comes this fascinating website that covers all kinds of history of our country and food.

Spices:  Exotic Flavors and Medicines
This site from the UCLA Darling Biomedical Library examines spices in both cooking and medicine and provides an informative and illustrated spice table.

ChocoLocate:  The Chocolate Lovers' Page
The gateway to finding chocolate on the web.  This site is a yummy search engine that allows you to search by keyword, category, state, etc.

Food in the Movies
A most interesting site from UC Berkeley that provides information on both documentaries and feature films that feature eating, drinking or food.

The Gallery of Regrettable Food
This fun and informative site features "poorly photographed foodstuffs and horrid recipes."  What the site actually offers are great photos of cookbooks, ads ands and information of nutrition and food items from the 1930's-1960's in a humorous way.
