Campaigns and Campaigning:

CQ Politics -- Campaigns is a news and political watchdog service by Congressional Quarterly Press. This follows elections at all levels.

Campaign Finance part of the U.S. Elections Process by Department of State provides many links to agencies or organizations that monitor or follow campaign financing.

Campaign Finance Laws by FEC (Federal Elections Commission) contains information on the financing of federal elections and links to campaign finance reports, data, and law resources.

Encyclopedia of Presidential Campaigns, Slogans, Issues, and Platforms is a book by Robert N. Roberts. It covers the presidential campaigns from 1789 to 2000.

Follow the Money by the Institute on Money in State Politics provides indept monetary statistics. You can search by state, connect to California.

FundRace 2008 by Huffington Post is a map and graphical version  way to see who has made financial contributions to candidates. Data is by companies, people or occupation.

Open Secrets by the Center for Responsive Politics provides election financing, lobby spending, and election news.

Political Campaigns by Political Communication Lab at Stanfrod. This site provides campaign ads, nationally and for California elections.

PollingReport by itself provides trends in American public opinion.

Research on Elections and Practical Politics by University of Washington. Provides web sites that deal with electoriate process, voter turn out, political parties, campaign finance, and political news.

U. S. Election Information by CSU Chico a guide like this to general information on the U.S. elections including historical information on the 2006, 2004 and 2000 elections.

U.S. Election Process by Department of State. A fairly comprehensive linking to federal documents, sources of campaign financing, electoral process, caucuses, primaries, conventions, voting and the electoral college.

The Election Process

Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids by United States includes resources and guides for teaching K-12 about the U.S. government.

Democracy at Work by Scholastic provides resources for teachers from grades k-12. Each level has a section on the election process.

Election Central by Constitutional Rights Foundation. This provides "An online resource that helps teachers and students explore the electoral process past and present in the United States and around the world."

U.S. Electoral College by United States National Archives provides teaching resources on the how the electorial college works. There are historical election results and FAQs like "does my vote count?".

Electoral College by Department of State links to federal documents that explain the process.

Election Issues/Candidates' Positions

CQ Voting and Elections Collection by Congressional Quarterly. A database that allows statistical anaylsis of election materials.

StateLineprovides news information on each state's election process. The emphasis is on governor elections

FactCheck.org by Annenberg Political Fact Check monitors "the factual accuracy of what is said by major political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, and news releases, [aiming] to increase public knowledge and understanding"

On the Issues Provides political leaders’ position on different issues.

BallotWatch Initiative and Referendum Institute by University of Southern California watches state level elections and recalls.

Political Communication Lab from the Department of Communications at Stanford views the election via the media.

Project Vote Smart  by Project Vote Smart offers unbiased and relevant information" on the candidates and elected officials (categories covered include the candidates' biographical information, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances and interest group ratings).

American National Elections Studies by Center for Political Studies provides data on voting, public opinion, and political participation of national election outcomes. There are reports and bibliography of articles and books dealing with elections.

Project Vote Smart's Candidate List covers current candidates in the presidential, congressional, and state officials races.

Hertzberg, Hendrik. (2004). Politics : observations and arguments, 1966-2004. New York: Penguin Press. Provides speeches and presentations by political candidates.

Kessel, J. H.  (2001).  Presidents, the presidency, and the political environment.  Washington, D.C. : CQ Press. Provides information on the U.S. presidency; includes bibliographical references and index.

Skinner, R.M. (2007). More than money: interest group action in congressional elections. Lanham, MD: Rowan & Littlefield. Chapters talk about pressure and lobby groups and their relation to political parties.

Historycentral.com Provides comprehensive background information on the history of the Presidential elections in the U.S.

Political Campaigns by Political Communications Lab at Stanford. This site covers political campaigns from 1994 to present as viewed in the media.

Nature News - US 2006 Election Nature Magazine reviewed candidates science policies and examines their stances on five science issues. US 2004 Elections too.

U.S. Election Process Key Topics by United States Department of State includes information from 2006, and 2004 elections.

Race for the White House 2004 by Democracy in Action. Has a historical view of media, candidates, interest groups, and votes. Also Primary 2000 has background.

Elections 2004  by University of Michigan Documents Center. This is one of the most comprehensive list of links about the 2004 Elections. Note as time goes on the links may no longer be active. 

Election 2004 by Scholastic. Serves as a resource guide for teachers leading up to the elections of 2004.

National Public Radio -NPR Elections 2004 provides news and reports about the 2004 election.

Presidency 2004 by Politics1.com an archived page on the elections of 2004.

California Political History and Archive by Rose Institute at Claremont provides history of California elections back to 1849. Information on redistricting, biographies of candidates and demographic information on elections.

A New Nation Votes: American Election Returns, 1787-1825 by Philip Lampi, The American Antiquarian Society and Tufts University Digital Collections and Archives. This set of data is in progress but is searchable collection of election returns from the early years of American democracy. Searchable by candidate, office, year, and state. This site received Choice Outstanding Academic titles 2007 recognition.

U.S. Politics Today by EIN News service provides comprehensive links to news services covering the elections.

Elections 2008:

CQ Voting and Elections by Congressional Quarterly provides background on candidates and election results at all levels. Congressional Quarterly has a site specific to the 2008 primaries, called Race for the Presidency.

Elections 2008 by University of Washington provides information on the candidates, issues and news.

NPR: Elections 2008 by National Public Radio provides audio feed of speeches etc. of all levels of the elections.

Presidency 2008 by Politics1.com provides a comprehensive list with biographies of all party candidates, as well as news on the election.

Presidential Election of 2008 by Historycentral.

Election Preview 2007 by Initiative and Referendum Institute University of Southern California.


 International Election Results:

Election Resources on the Internet by Manual Alvarez-Rivera provides links to publicly available election materials from over 120 countries, including United States. The materials are available in English and Spanish language.

ElectionsGuide by IFES provides timely source of verified election information and results of over 120 countries and the content is also available on CNN Election Watch.
