      Video Materials
     The CSULB Library has an excellent collection of Dance performances on video. To find a video, search by keywords such as Dance 
     Performance, Ballet Performance, Nureyev, Modern Dance. Limit the search to Media Collection using the drop down menu next to the search
     box. Videos are found in the lower level of the library. The following titles are a small selection from the library's collection:

       To find articles, choose a database for your search. Each database indexes a wide variety of scholarly journals, magazines, and news sources. To see a
       complete list of databases in the university
click here. The most relevant databases for Dance research are listed below.

     Academic Search Elite
      General subject database containing indexing and abstracts for nearly 3,000 journals, with many dating back to 1984. Academic Search 
      Elite also provides a full-text data for over 1,200 journals, with some information dating back to 1990.
Journal titles in this database include:
      Dance Chronicle, Dance Magazine, Dance Research Journal, Performing Arts Journal.

        ERIC   
      Good source for references to journal articles and documents on dance education.  References to thousands of educational topics. Coverage: 
      1966 to date. 


        International Index to the Performing Arts (IIPA)
      An index to international performing arts periodicals, covering a broad spectrum of the arts and entertainment industry, including dance, film,
      television,theater, and more. Coverage is primarily 1998 to present.

      International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance
      Perhaps the most important scholarly index on the subject. Includes over 60,000 articles. Coverage is international.

        Project Muse
      Full text of nearly 200 scholarly journals relating to "the fields of literature and criticism ... the visual and performing arts ... and many others.

        Lexis Nexis Academic
      Good source for newspaper reviews of dances.  Newspapers, journals, legal digests and reports, and other publications covering economic,   
      business, medical, social science and popular culture issues. Coverage:  most files started between 1970 and 1985 and run to the present. 
      Some legal materials (laws, court reporters, law digests) go back to 1799.
 

     Humanities Abstracts  
      Citations to more than 400 periodicals on archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, 
      philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature. Abstracts are available from March 1994 to date. Coverage:  February 1984 to date.  

       SPORT Discus
      Resource for references to articles about various aspects of dance, including conditioning for and injuries to dancers. Coverage: 1975 to date.

          MEDLINE on FirstSearch
      References to articles about injuries to dancers and nutrition. Accesses indexes to more than 3,500 journals published internationally,
      covering all areas of medicine.

         Artslynx/Dance
           A comprehensive gateway for web sites on dance. This is a well-organized site with many categories of dance links.
           Cyber Dance
           Ballet and Modern Dance on the Net.
           Dance Links
    
       A collection links on ballet, dance resources, films, shopping, companies, agents. Includes a section on the history of Pointe.
          
 Voice of Dance
           Current national events, performance reviews, news, with links to dance services, shopping, performances, and schools.

           Directory of U.S. and International Dance Companies listed alphabetically.
          
Sapphire Swan Dance Directory
           Links to more than 30 styles of dance from Aztec to zydeko. Inlcudes directory of dance companies by region. 

      
Organizations

         
Dance Notation Bureau (DNB)
           The Dance Notation Bureau's mission is to advance the art of dance through the use of a system of notation.  This site features    
           information on notation basics; sources for assistance in studying Labanotation, notating dances, and staging from the Labanotation  
           score. There is also a section for teachers containing materials that can be downloaded and used in the classroom, plus a bulletin board 
           that allows discussions of notation issues.
        
Dance Heritage Coalition
           According to the site, the DHC focuses in four areas:  Access to materials; the continuing documentation of dance employing both   
           traditional methods and developing technologies; preservation of existing documentation; and, education regarding methods, standards, 
           and practice for access, documentation, and preservation.
          
NASD, National Association of Schools of Dance
           As stated on their web page, NASD is an organization of schools, colleges, and universities that offer dance studies. The web site is 
           intended to provide general assistance regarding the operation of NASD, including the accreditation process.

         National Dance Association (NDA) 
           The National Dance Association (NDA) is an organization for dance educators which is based in Reston, Virginia.  The mission of the    
           National Dance Association is to promote the development and implementation of sound philosophies and policies in all forms of dance 
           and in dance education at all levels.  The site includes information about membership, publications and communications, conventions and 
           meetings, and programs and professional services.
 
        
National Dance Education Organization (NDEO)
           The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is an organization established to advance dance education centered in the arts.  
           The Journal of Dance Education (JODE) is the official publication of the organization.
              Society of Dance History Scholars 
           The Society of Dance History Scholars "is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting study, research, discussion, performance, 
           and publication in dance history and related fields."
 

     General Dance Research

           The New York Public Library Dance Collection 
           Catalog of the New York Public Library Dance Collection that is THE collection of dance materials in the world. The catalog is so detailed 
           that it also can function as an index to a wide range of dance periodicals.
 

     Online Dance Exhibits

           An American Ballroom Companion: Dance Instruction Manuals Ca. 1490 - 1920
         An online exhibit from the Music Division of the Library of Congress with a directory of video clips showing samples of the dances.

         This exhibit from the Library of Congress features a moving image collection of Katherine Dunham's work as a pioneer in Modern Dance.
