Statistics

Bureau of Justice Statistics:
Provides numerous statistical documents relating to criminal justice. Categories include crimes and victims, criminal offenders, the justice system, and crime and justice data from other justice-related organizations.

Death Penalty Information Center
This website offers a significant amount of statistical data including crime statistics, Death Row demographic data, and reports about the application of the death penalty on a national, as well as state-by-state, level.  The site was established, and is maintained by, the Death Penalty Information Center which opposes the death penalty.

National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD)
The NACJD is a special topic archive of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. NACJD acquires, archives, processes, and provides access to electronic criminal justice data collections for research and instruction. The NACJD Web site provides downloadable access to hundreds of criminal justice data collections free of charge.

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics:
Published by the Bureau of Justice and SUNY-Albany. The Sourcebook is an authoritative and comprehensive compilation of statistics representing all aspects of criminal justice in the United States.

FBI Uniform Crime Reports (UCR):
The UCR is a comprehensive, yearly compilation of various national crime statistics based on local and state police reports.

Federal Bureau of Prison Quick Facts:
This site provides a statistical overview of the federal prison system.

Federal Sentencing Statistics by State:
Sponsored by the United States Sentencing Commission, this site lists sentencing statistics by circuit court and state.

Criminal Justice Statistics Center:
This site from the State of California, Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General provides access to state-related crime statistics.

The Statistical Abstract of the United States
"The authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States."  Data are compiled from a wide array of federal agencies and sources.
