CHILDREN'S LITERATURE CATALOGS
The Children's Literature Catalogs provides access to 3 catalogs that provide information on children's books including a summary of the book and reading level.  

ERIC

Accesses journal articles and ERIC documents in the field of education including lesson plans, research/technical reports, etc. from 1966 to the present.

SOCIAL SCIENCES ABSTRACTS
Accesses more than 350 international, English language periodicals in sociology, anthropology, geography, economics, political science, and law. Coverage is from 1983 to the present.

HUMANITIES ABSTRACTS
Accesses citations with abstracts to more than 400 periodicals in all areas of humanities including literature from 1984 to the present.

READER'S GUIDE ABSTRACTS
Accesses citations with abstracts to popular magazines from 1983 to the present.

These Internet sites may be of particular interest to students and faculty in CHILDREN'S LITERATURE.

BANNED BOOKS ON-LINE
Although this site includes many titles that are not "children's" books it does include many titles that often found in children's collection. It includes books that have been banned by public and school libraries.

BULLETIN OF THE CENTER FOR CHILDREN'S BOOKS
Many useful links to lists of children's books and book reviews are included in this site.  The CSULB library also subscribes to the Center's journal.  (See COAST.)

THE CALDECOTT MEDAL HOME PAGE
The Caldecott Medal is given to the most distinguished artist for children's picture books in the preceding year.  Information about the medal is provided at this site as are links to a number of related sites.

CALIFORNIA YOUNG READER MEDAL
This site includes information on the annual "California Young Reader" award as well as a list of recipients from 1996 to the present. The CYR award is given to authors based on nominations from elementary and secondary students.

CAROL HURST'S CHILDREN'S LITERATURE SITE
This site provides links to reviews of children's literature. It also includes suggestions for using children's literature in the classroom.

CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF BOOKS IN SPANISH FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
This site which resides at CSU San Marcos includes information on books, workshops and other related sources.

CHILDREN'S LITERATURE ACTIVITIES INDEX
This site provides reviews and classroom activities for selected children's books for elementary school students.

CHILDREN'S LITERATURE WEB GUIDE
This is an excellent site that provides useful links to discussion boards, reference sources and more. All related to children's literature.

CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARDS
This site provides a list of national and international awards for children's books. Each of the awards is "hot" linked to an appropriate site.

CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK DATABASE
This website is hosted by Miami University and gives access to abstracts of children's books held by the library at Miami University.  Simple keyword searching provides information on over 500 books.

CORETTA SCOTT KING AWARD
This link will take users to the site containing information on the award given to African American authors and illustrators for their outstanding contributions to children's and young adult literature.

ISLMC CHILDREN'S LITERATURE & LANGUAGE ARTS RESOURCES
This is an excellent site for teachers because it links children's literature and language arts together and provides information on using children's literature in the classroom.

JOHN NEWBERY MEDAL HOME PAGE
This site provides information on the prestigious Newbery award for children's literature.  In addition a link is provided to the actual award winning titles from 1922 to 1999.

LION AND THE UNICORN
A theme- and genre-centered journal that offers a serious discussion of children's literature.

RECOMMENDED LITERATURE: KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 12
This web page which resides on the California Department of Education web site provides a list of the over 2,000 books recommended for school children of all ages.  In addition to a searchable database, the site also gives links for "standards," "literary genres" and "awards."

CHILDREN'S CATALOG

Children's Catalog is a comprehensive list of fiction and nonfiction books and magazines for children from preschool through grade six. It also includes a review for each book listed.

Indexes almost 300 of the most valuable and accessible English language education related periodicals. Also includes proceedings, yearbooks, bulletins, book reviews, including school texts. Subject headings are subdivided, often by grade level.

THE NEWBERY AND CALDECOTT AWARDS: A GUIDE TO THE MEDAL AND HONOR BOOKS

This reference source provides the criteria and qualifications for these two major children's literature awards in addition to providing the award winners from the origin of the award to 1992.
