Export Advantage
A comprehensive website on US exporting of textiles and apparel from the Office of Textiles and Apparel of the US Department of Commerce.

 Export Institute USA
Provides links to many export related sites.

 Free Trade Area of the Americas 

 
 International Trade / Import-Export Portal
Maintained by the Federation of International Trade Associations, this is a good place to begin research in international trade. The site is both searchable and browsable. The categories include Trade Leads; Business Directories; Direct Investment; Currencies; International Taxation; Seaports; Translation Services; Industrial Commodity Codes; International Law; Treaties and International Conventions; Trade Barriers; Expatriate Resources; International Business Publications.

 JETRO
Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is a nonprofit, Japanese government-supported organization dedicated to promoting mutually beneficial trade and economic relationships between Japan and other nations.

 Stat-USA
STAT-USA, a service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is the site for the U.S. business, economic and trade community, providing authoritative information from the Federal government.  Has export/import data, some government sponsored market research, trade leads, etc.

 Export. Gov
Access to information from the U.S. Government and assists American businesses in planning their international sales strategies and succeed in today’s global marketplace.

 TradePort International
Takes some of the data from StatUSA and redistributes it, but may be easier to use.

  U.S. Trade and Development Agency
Created in 1981, the US Trade and Development Agency (TDA) is an independent federal agency that "assists in the creation of jobs for Americans by helping US companies pursue overseas business opportunities."

Coding and Classification
 SITC (Standard International Trade Classification...created by UN)...uses 5 digit codes grouped  in 10 major categories.

 SIC (Standard Industrial Classification system) ....4 digit classification used in U.S.

 NAICS (North American Industry Classification System)....NAICS has replaced the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) effective 1997 and uses a 6 digit classification which expands from the 4 digit SIC.

 Schedule B The classification system used for export data.  "Schedule B: Statistical Classification of Domestic and Foreign Commodities Exported from the United States" is in Federal Documents    C 3.150:B/996/v.1-2     (volume 1 by classification number, volume 2 index by commodity)
