Business - Industries

Web Sites for Industry Information

Below are links to web sites that cover all industries as well as web sites for a few specific industries for which I only had one or two links (not enough to start a new page just for the industry).

2000 Service Industry Annual Survey
From the site, "...report covering professional, scientific and technical services. This sector includes legal services (except notaries); accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services; architectural, engineering and related services; management, scientific and technical consulting services; scientific research and development services; advertising and related services; and other professional, scientific and technical services."

How to Research an Industry
Though references to printed materials give call numbers for other universities, many of the items linked here can be found through CSULB Library.

IndustryLink
Describes itself as "the premier directory of links to industry web sites"...has links for aerospace, automation, chemical, energy, etc. etc.

Statistics of U.S. Businesses
Use Tabulations By Enterprise Size box (top-left) to get to data.

STAT-USA
Click on Globus and NTDB (National Trade Data Bank). From there you can get information (descriptive and statistical) on industries around the world. Remote access available only to CSULB Students, Staff & Faculty. Use your Library Password for remote access.

Survey of Current Business
This web site provides the Survey (in PDF and sometimes in html) from January 1994 forward.

Thomas Register of Manufacturers
Web site requires registration, but it's free. Once registered this is a very convenient way to identify manufacturers of types of products.

Top 100 Retailers (Stores Magazine)

Yahoo: News and Media: Business: Industries
Yahoo is often a great way to identify web sites on a subject. This link takes you to their industry sections.

Yahoo: Trade Associations
For some industries (especially small ones) the best source of information may be a trade association which supports the industry. Yahoo lists a number of trade associations so it is a good place to start.
