Controversial Topics

Controversial topics come from concepts or ideas that have various points of view, usually opposing viewpoints. Some more ideas can be found by checking our Research Guide for in the News, Research Guide on Opposing Viewpoints or the Research Guide on Paper Topics on Society Issues pages.

Consider the Database called Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center that specifically covers controversial topics with research materials.

May 2009 California Ballot Measures
Are Botox Injections really needed? Should same-sex marriage be legal?
Is stem cell research ethical? Under God? Constitutionality of the Pledge of Allegiance
Who should have ownership rights in internet publishing? Are genetically modified foods safe?
Did the Holocaust really happen? Should guns be banned in the workplace?
What rules govern placement of religious symbols in public places? Should the President wire-tap without permission?

There are books that offer other controversial topics either Opposing Viewpoints or Contemporary World Issues. Please check them out. A magazine on controversial topics is CQ Researcher (only available for CSULB users) although it tends to be politically based issues.

To FIND MORE check for books for more on these topics OR look for article look under General Research Databases. Good Luck! Remember the librarians at the Reference Desk in the University Library can always help.
