Reserve Services

Reserve materials are RESTRICTED to CSULB students, staff and faculty. The reserves collection consists of items that instructors place either in the library (traditional) or electronic (online via the library) for student's use. These items include:

  • books, book chapters, or media owned by the library
  • books, book chapters, or media owned by the instructor
  • electronic copies of journal, magazine and newspaper articles
  • electronic copies of instructor authored materials (practice exams, problem sets, course notes, syllabi, etc.)
  • eBooks
  • URL Links

Traditional (print) reserve materials are available either at the Circulation or Reference Reserve Shelf.

Electronic (online) reserve materials are available via COAST. A password is required to access this collection.

To search for reserve materials (both traditional and electronic), start in COAST and simply click on the Course Reserves link on the right navigation menu.

For Students: Additional information on using the Reserves collection is located here.

For Faculty: Additional information on Reserves is located here.

CSULB Library strictly enforces fair use and copyright rules for all materials. Since the purpose of course reserve material is to "supplement" and not "replace" course materials, a limit of 25 items per course is enforced by Reserve Services. Reserve Services monitors all materials placed on course reserves and may restrict access if fair use or copyright guidelines are violated.
