RESERVE SERVICES

Reserve Services maintains collections of items that instructors place on reserve for student use. These items include:

  • books or book chapters or media owned by the library
  • books or book chapters or media owned by the instructor
  • electronic copies of periodical articles
  • electronic copies of instructor authored materials (practice exams, problem sets, course notes, syllabi, etc.)

The University Library offers instructors and students the use of Reserve Services in two forms: print and electronic. Information about print materials and links to the actual electronic materials placed on Reserve will all be available through our eReserves web page. Print materials are housed on the lower level.

CSULB Library strictly enforces fair use and copyright rules for all materials. Effective Spring 2004 the Library has also implemented guidelines regarding Copyright Clearance for Electronic Reserve items. Since the purpose of course reserve material is to "supplement" and not "replace" course materials, a limit of 25 items per course is enforced by Reserve Services. Reserve Services monitors all materials placed on course websites and may restrict access if fair use or copyright guidelines are violated.

As the result of a generous gift from the Senior class of 1994, the University Library can offer electronic reserves through the eReserves web page--providing around the clock electronic access to reserve materials.
