RefWorks Export/Import Instructions |
Use these instructions to export references from the Library's research databases.
To export citations:
1. Click on the citation you are interested in to display the full citation.
2. Click BibTex where Display formats: is indicated.
3. Copy and paste the results into a .txt file.
4. Do this with each citation you want.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select BibTex as the Import Filter/Data Source and ACM Digital Library as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Click Abstract to display the full citation.
2. At the top of the citation, click Download to Citation Manager.
3. Under Choose a citation manager format, choose RefWorks and click Download. Then click Export to RefWorks.
4. Do this with each citation you want.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
References must be imported manually from this database. See Adding References Manually in the Help feature of RefWorks for more information.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. At the bottom of the screen is a box labeled, Print, Save or Email. Under Select Records, make sure that Marked on this page is selected. Choose Export Format in the box labeled Select Format, then click Format for Print or Save.
3. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select Endeavor Voyager as the Import Filter/Data Source and AGRICOLA as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
America's Historical Newspapers, 1690-1876
References must be imported manually from this database. See Adding References Manually in the Help feature of RefWorks for more information.
Annual Reviews
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click the link, Download to citation manager just above your list of citations.
3. First, uncheck the box labeled, Enable quick import into citation manager. Choose Reference Manager as the file format and click Download chapter metadata.
4. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select RIS Format as the Import Filter/Data Source and Reference Manager as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click the link, Send to Citation Mgr just above your list of citations.
3. In the box labeled, Format, choose Refworks and click Download article citation data.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
References must be imported manually from this database. See Adding References Manually in the Help feature of RefWorks for more information.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box labeled Add to marked list.
2. Click Marked List at the top of the screen.
3. Choose the category you wish to download (i.e., Essays, Journals, etc. Note: the category "Multimedia" cannot be download directly to RefWorks).
4. Mark the citations you wish to download by checking the box labeled Select this record.
5. Click Download selected records at the top of the list.
6. Click Export directly to RefWorks.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Export Citations at the top of the list.
3. Choose RefWorks and click Download References.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. At the bottom of the screen, click export found directly to the right of where it says RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Selected Records on the left side of the screen.
3. Choose Export directly to RefWorks.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Just above your list of citations is a box labeled, Results Manager. Click the box labeled Download.
3. Choose the radio button, RefWorks direct import and click Download.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.

To export citations:
1. After performing your search, display the full text of the item you are interested in.
2. Click CiteNow! at the top of the screen.
3. Choose the citation style you want, i.e. APA, MLA, Chicago.
4. In the drop down box labeled Export citation to:, choose RefWorks.
Note: You can only export one citation at a time in these databases. There is no ability to create a marked list to export.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. After getting your search results, change the display to BibTeX and click Redisplay. Note: You cannot select individual citations to export. The only thing you can do is to restrict the number of citations that display by changing the number at the top next to Hits.
2. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select BibTeX as the Import Filter/Data Source and Current Index to Statistics (CIS) as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the Add link on the right side of each citation.
2. Click the Folder has Items link above the citation list.
3. This will display the list of citations you have saved. Select each item by placing a check in the box. Click the Export link at the top of that list.
4. Choose Direct Export to RefWorks and click Save.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the right side of each item; click Add to my list.
2. Click Marked List on the left side of the screen.
3. Click Download(ASCII) at the top of the list.
4. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select Emerald as the Import Filter/Data Source and All databases as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
References must be imported manually from this database. See Adding References Manually in the Help feature of RefWorks for more information.

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click the Export button just above the list of citations.
3. Choose RefWorks where Export to: is indicated and click the Export button.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Choose download to citation manager at the top of the list of citations and click Go.
3. In the resulting screen, click Download ALL Selected Citations to Citation Manager then click RefWorks.
4. Save the results to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select RIS Format as both the Import Filter/Data Source and Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click View Selected Items at the top of the list of citations.
3. In the box labeled, Download Citations in the upper left of the screen, choose either Citation or Citation & Abstract. Next, choose RefWorks and click the arrow.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Marked List in the upper right of the screen.
3. Click export (plain text) at the top of your list.
4. Save the results as a .txt file to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select Ingenta as the Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple Databases> as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
Institute of Physics E-Journals
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. At the bottom of the screen is a box labeled, Export/Email search result. Under 1, make sure that Selected Records is chosen. Under 2, choose BibTeX; under 3, Abstract; and under 4, choose Disk. Click Export Results.
3. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select BibTeX as the Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple Databases> as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
ISI
Biological Abstracts • Web of Science
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. At the top of the screen, click the more options choice next to Save to EndNote Web. Next, make sure Selected Records is chosen.
3. Choose any additional fields you want added to your exported records.
4. Click Save to EndNote, RefMan or other reference software.
5. Click Export and save the results to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) as the Import Filter/Data Source and Web of Science as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Choose the citations you wish to save by clicking on Save Citation.
2. Click View Saved Citations in the upper right.
3. Click Directly export citations into RefWorks.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Export at the bottom of the list.
3. Choose Selected entries and click Export.
4. Copy the resulting screen into Word (or Wordpad/Notepad) and save as a text file.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select L'Année Philologigue as the Import Filter/Data Source and as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click the Export Bibliographic References icon at the top right of the list (it looks like an open book).
3. Click the Export box on the screen that opens up.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Select the citations you want by clicking Clipboard underneath each citation.
2. Select Clipboard at the top of the screen.
3. At Select Format, select Citations (BibTeX) and click SaveClip.
4. Save the results as a .txt file to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select BibTeX as the Import Filter/Data Source and MathSciNet as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Select the Output Format you wish to use and click Export.
3. Click RefWorks on the resulting screen and your citations will be downloaded.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
NLM
NLM Gateway • PubMed • PubMed Central
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Change the Display option at the top of your list of citations from Summary to MEDLINE.
3. Change the box labeled Send to to Text.
4. Save the results to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select NLM PubMed as the Import Filter/Data Source and as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Save Checked Items on the left side of the screen.
3. Click Display Checked Items.
4. Click Download.
5. In the resulting box, choose RefWorks Tagged Format and click Download.
6. Save the results as a .txt file to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select RefWorks Tagged Format as the Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple Databases> as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
Online Geographical Bibliography (GEOBIB)
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. At the bottom of the screen is a box labeled, Record Options. Under Records, make sure that Selected on page is selected. Choose Full Record in the box labeled Select Download Format, then click Format for Print/Save.
3. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select Endeavor Voyager as the Import Filter/Data Source and University of Wisconsin-Madison as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Results Manager at the top of the list.
3. Change any of the other attributes if you wish (i.e., Results, Fields, etc.). Under Result Format, choose Direct Export and click Save.
4. Choose Export results to RefWorks.
5. Click Continue.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
PRISMA/HAPI
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box labeled Add to marked list.
2. Click Marked List at the top of the screen.
3. Click Download records at the top of the list.
4. Click Export directly to RefWorks.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Save Marked Results.
3. Click the button labeled Email/Export Saved Results located at the top of the screen.
4. Choose RefWorks and click Export.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
Proquest

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Save/Mail at the top of the screen.
3. For Record format, change the drop down box to Opac format.
4. Click Go (DO NOT include your Email address).
5. Save the results to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select ExLibris ALEPH as the Import Filter/Data Source and RAMBI as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
References must be imported manually from this database. See Adding References Manually in the Help feature of RefWorks for more information.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the lower left side of each item.
2. Click Add to My Marked Citations located to the right of your list.
3. Below that, choose Email/Download/Save/Print My Marked citations and click Go.
4. Click EXPORT/DOWNLOAD to Citation Manager and then click RefWorks.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click export citations located above your list of citations.
3. Make sure RefWorks Direct Export is selected next to Export Format:.
4. Click Export.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
Scitation

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Just above your list of citations is a box labeled, Options for selected Articles. Use the dropdown box to select Download citation (s) in: and choose RefWorks.
3. Save the results as plain text (.txt) to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select RefWorks Tagged Format as the Import Filter/Data Source and as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved text file.
4. Click Import.
SpringerLink Journals Online Collection
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click RIS next to Export Selected Citations: at the top of the list.
3. Save the file to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select RIS Format as the Import Filter/Data Source and <Multiple Databases> as the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved file.
4. Click Import.

Cochrane Library • Wiley Interscience
To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.
2. Click Download Selected Citations at the bottom of the list.
3. Save the file to import into RefWorks.
To import citations into RefWorks:
1. Choose References, Import on the toolbar.
2. Select Wiley InterScience as both the Import Filter/Data Source and the Database.
3. Choose Import Data from the following Text File and browse for your saved file.
4. Click Import.
Wilson

To export citations:
1. Mark the citations you wish to save by checking the box on the left side of each item.

3. Expand the box labeled Export to bibliographic software: EndNote, RefWorks....
4. Make sure RefWorks' Direct Export Tool is chosen next to Download Record(s) into: and click Export.
References will be imported directly into RefWorks.
