How do I Search MathSciNet?
To get to MathSciNet, go to the Mathematics and Statistics database page. Click on MathSciNet.

To get the most up-to-date search tips, MathSciNet also provides a Help Index.

Full Search: Contains 4 possible search fields with limiting options.

· Use F ull Search to create a search using keywords in multiple fields:

AND - results must contain BOTH terms.

OR - results can contain EITHER term.

NOT- results EXCLUDE this term.

Basic Search - Single field search capability.

· Basic Search- AND, OR, NOT can be used in the single field as well.

Author Search - search by author name to retrieve reviews base on unique author identification.

Journal Search - search for the bibliographic information and content of a specific journal.

Mathematic Subject Classification (MSC) Search - Look for reviews on topics based on subject heading.

Collaboration Distance Search - Searches for results based on authors connected by at least one paper. Will retrieve all articles for each author and related articles connected by other author collaborations.

Current Awareness Search - Search for records most recently entered into MathSciNet by:

  • Journal Name, current week to six weeks.
  • Book title, one to six months.
  • Classification, one to six months.

Full Text Articles

To retrieve the full text of an article:

Option 1: In the record result, the icon labeled ARTICLE, designates an active link to the article.

Option 2: Where links to articles are not available, there is often a link in the record result to the homepage of the online journal the article came from, designated by the icon labeled JOURNAL. It may be available full text at that site.

Option 3: Click on the SFX icon for links via SFX software to the full-text of journal articles and databases subscribed to by the CSULB University Library.

Saving, Printing and E-mailing

HTML / PDFHTML results are easily saved to a disk, opened in HTML and /or printed or emailed to you at your email address. If you chose the Adobe Acrobat .pdf version, you may also print, download, or email this file. However to email a .pdf file, you must save it in a file on your desktop and then attach this file to an email addressed to yourself. To do this, save the file in PDF format by using the tool bar for Adobe Acrobat (not the Windows toolbar) and click on the save icon (a disk). Save the file to your Workspace. Call up your email (e.g.,
http://webmail.csulb.edu), address the mail, and attach the .pdf file you have saved.
