The Library at California State University, Long Beach, exists to support the instructional and research needs of the CSULB faculty, students and staff.  The University Library also fills a role as a community resource and as such provides a variety of services to visitors (those individuals who are not currently CSULB faculty, staff and students.)

The following services are available free of charge to all visitors:

Alumni

Required identification:  CSU Alumni Association card.

Alumni from any California State University campus are provided library privileges upon presentation of their CSU Alumni Association card. This card will be used as your library card once you register at the Library Circulation Desk.  These library privileges include the borrowing of library materials as follows:

Community Borrowers

Required identification:  Social Security card.

Community borrower's cards are available to all visitors for $45 a year.  This fee is charged to help defray the cost of the materials and staff time and is payable upon completion of an application for the card. Applications are available at the Circulation Desk.  The library privileges include the borrowing of library materials as follows:


Community Colleges

Required identification:  A current college identification card from the affiliated campus.

Students, faculty, and staff of several community colleges (Cerritos, Cypress, El Camino, Golden West, Long Beach City College, Santa Ana, and Santiago Canyon) have fully reciprocal borrowing privileges.    For specific details see mutual use and special lending agreements.

Students of these community colleges are entitled to the borrowing of materials as follows:
  • The loan period for books from the general collection is 21 days; 4 renewals are allowed (if there's no recall). 
  • The loan period for media materials (for audiocassettes, compact discs, videos, and DVDs) is 7 days ; 1 renewal is allowed. 
  • Items may be renewed either in person or electronically (via My Library Account).
  • The maximum number of items that can be checked out at one time is 10.
  • Faculty and Staff of these community colleges are entitled to the borrowing of materials as follows:
  • The loan period for books from the general collection is 120 days; 2 renewals are allowed (if there's no recall). 
  • The loan period for media materials (for audiocassettes, compact discs, videos, and DVDs) is 7 days ; 1 renewal is allowed. 
  • Items may be renewed either in person or electronically (via My Library Account).
  • The maximum number of items that can be checked out at one time is 10.

  • Corporations

    Required identification:  Please inquire. 

    Local corporations are eligible for a  Corporate Borrower's Card at $250.00 annually. This fee provides for the issuance of three CSULB Library cards to the corporation.  The library privileges include the borrowing of library materials as follows:


    CSU Faculty, Staff and Students

    Required identification:  A current college identification card from the affiliated campus.

  • High School Students

    Required identification:  CSULB University Library will issue a High School card to students.

    CSULB offers junior and senior secondary school students of the Long Beach-Los Angeles-West Orange County Area an enrichment program to obtain a University Library card.  Click here for more details on the CSULB High School Outreach Program including program requirements and how to obtain a card.   As a High School Cardholder, a student is entitled to the borrowing of library materials as follows:

  • The loan period for media materials (for audiocassettes, compact discs, videos, and DVDs) is 7 days ; 1 renewal is allowed. 
  • Items may be renewed either in person or electronically (via My Library Account).

  • Long Beach Unified School District Faculty /  Long Beach Area Librarians

    Required identification:  CSULB University Library will issue a card.

    These cards are issued to currently employed full time faculty (including librarians) in LBUSD, to librarians from the Long Beach Public Library, and to medical or corporate librarians working in the Long Beach area. Cards are valid from issuance until September 30th of each year and may be renewed as long as the district or library employs the person. To apply for a library card, obtain an application form at the Library Circulation Desk or for LBUSD faculty from your school principal.  Cardholders are granted borrowing privileges for library materials as follows:
