How do I access SciFinder Scholar?

SciFinder Scholar is accessible to CSULB Students, Faculty, and Staff only, on the 1st floor computers in the library.

On the 1st floor Spidell Center computers, look for SciFinder Scholar at the Start menu->All Programs->Utilities->SciFinder Scholar.  SciFinder Scholar is different from the other online databases that the library offers because it not accessed via a web browser.

What is SciFinder Scholar?

SciFinder Scholar is search software used to search Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). CAS contains references from over 9,500 currently published journals dating as far back as 1907. CAS also includes patent information from more than 50 active patent issuing authorities.CAS includes the CAS Registry which can be searched by CAS Registry number, chemical name, molecular formula and by structure drawing.Find more information about CAS content here: http://www.cas.org/SCIFINDER/SCHOLAR/index.html

IMPORTANT -

Discontinued Versions of SciFinder Scholar

In June 2007, CAS notified SciFinder Scholar Key Contacts that after January 2, 2008 the following versions of SciFinder Scholar would be discontinued:

SciFinder Scholar 2004.2 (MAC OS 9 and Windows)

SciFinder Scholar MAC OS X 1.0

The above versions are no longer supported. Please note that CAS also no longer supports Macintosh OS 9 as of January 2, 2008.

Please update your organization's access to SciFinder Scholar by visiting myCAS at http://my.cas.org/ . The following are the most recent versions available for download:
